We are kicking off our new season of nonfiction kidlit book events with a visit from Steve Sheinkin.

Steve Sheinkin is the the author of such critically acclaimed kidlit titles as BOMB, UNDEFEATED, and, most recently, BORN TO FLY (among scads of others) . He will join SCBWI Western Washington’s nonfiction coordinator, Lisa L. Owens, for an in-depth Q&A-style conversation about the craft of narrative nonfiction.

In the zoom meeting, they will discuss Sheinkin’s process for creating his special brand of suspenseful true-story narratives that keep young readers clamoring for more. They will also touch on important distinctions between creating compelling narrative nonfiction and the type of page-turning, format-busting historical fiction Sheinkin also writes.

Sheinkin’s work has been recognized with many accolades, including a Newbery Honor and three National Book Award finalist honors. He is the recipient of ALA’s 2020 Margaret A. Edwards Award, which recognizes an author’s body of work “for significant and lasting contribution to young adult literature.” Visit stevesheinkin.com to learn more.
